Where can liquid remain?
Look at bores, pockets, recesses and contact points. The position of the workpiece in the carrier affects which areas face downwards and which can hold liquid. The carrier itself can also carry liquid into the next process. Record these observations as a starting point instead of looking only at the clearly visible surfaces.
Assess loading and process together
Note how the loaded carrier enters drying. Does it stay in the same position or is it reoriented? Are other carriers or fixtures nearby? For coordination, the actual temperature, time and process are important. A general statement on heat resistance does not answer this whole situation.
Define a clear point of assessment
Decide when the condition is checked: immediately after the process, after a defined waiting time or at the handover to the next station. Different points in time can give different impressions. For a reliable comparison, conditions and method should stay the same. Your operational requirements determine whether a visual check is enough or further tests are needed.
Example of a test question
A small bush is provided for assembly after cleaning. The question is not only whether its outer surface appears dry. The inner contour, the contact point with the carrier and its condition at later removal must also be assessed. A trial can compare different permissible positions. This example is a planning aid, not an MFP application approval.
Document the condition of the carrier
After the intended load, check whether any visible changes occur. Where relevant, compare dimensions or the function at the next holder. If the same carrier is used repeatedly, the assessment should take the planned cycle into account. Approval is not decided by a single unremarkable run.
What belongs in a drying report
- Carrier variant and part revision.
- Loading and orientation.
- Process, actual conditions and duration.
- Point of assessment and test method.
- Result, abnormalities and open actions.
This turns drying into a traceable process decision. For further planning, the German industrial parts cleaning association (FiT) offers its own guidelines on drying.
